Keyboardist Mary Ancheta and bassist Matt Reid talk about their band MA: Q, led by Mary and also featuring Dominic Conway on saxophone and Paul Clark on drums. Mary, a Hamilton, Ontario native, and Matt, originally from the Gulf Islands, have been highly active on the Vancouver scene for more than 20 years now.
MA: Q recently released their new album When the Light Comes to Play, which includes a guest feature by Mike Stern, and toured across Canada. The tour included an opening set for the Head Hunters at the Montreal International Jazz Festival. In the past few years since formation, the band has opened for BADBADNOTGOOD at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre during the Vancouver festival and has toured to Australia and Japan.
