Agnes Persson talks about coming to Vancouver for the first time thanks to an artistic residency, connected here via the Coastal Jazz and Blues Society. Agnes is a Swedish guitarist and composer-bandleader based in Stockholm. She's been in town for the month of September, jamming with and hearing shows from the likes of Cole Schmidt and Sick Boss, Peggy Lee, Kevin Romain, and several more local friends.
Agnes' work brings together aspects of free improv and jazz traditions. Her two albums as a leader are Listen Closely (2024), featuring her trio with Jakob Ulmestrand on bass and Ludwig Aronsson on drums; and In Collaboration with Flowers (2021).
Agnes is playing at 8EAST on Tuesday, September 23 as part of the annual exchange event called Trading Places: Un Échange.
