Sadie Koshan, how'd you end up with 4 gigs in a day? | RCTV 004

The McGill student talks about her peers in the Vancouver scene and what's inspiring her at the onset of her career

Sadie Koshan

Sadie Koshan talks about her peers in the Vancouver scene as well as what's inspiring her at the onset of her career. Sadie is a drummer who grew up in Kitsilano, made fast friends with the city's best high school jazz musicians at the VSO School of Music and at venues like Aperture Coffee Bar, and now attends McGill's jazz program, where she will soon begin second year. Sadie has played several gigs while back home for the summer, including multiple shows at the Fort Langley Jazz & Arts Festival and Apollo's. She also participated in the Vancouver jazzfest's New Improvisers Studio while taking in the music around town in late June.

Sadie's next performances are on Wednesday, August 13th at Aperture, as the Muppet Trio with pianist Anthony Yuen and bassist Erin Kim; and August 18th at the Hot Deli for Infidels Jazz's Pass the Hat series, where she leads a quartet with saxophonist Ru Ha, guitarist Saige Adams, and Kim again on bass.

I first heard Sadie in 2024 when she was a high school musician. I volunteered at the Surrey Slam Jam Showcase presented by Surrey Jazz Nights, though I didn't interview her back then:
