Ayo Leilani talks about her fourth album as Witch Prophet, Words Are Spells, Thoughts Are Magic. She released it on March 18th through her own label and management company Heart Lake Records, co-founded with her longtime partner Sun Sun and based in Caledon, Ontario. Leilani shares personal stories behind the new album's tracks, which comprise a 'side A' produced by herself and a 'side B' produced by Sun Sun. She also talks about inviting instrumentalists such as Karen Ng, Tara Kannangara, and Feven Kidane into her work. Witch Prophet has earned two Polaris Music Prize nominations, including a shortlist for DNA Activation (2020) and a longlist for Gateway Experience (2023).
Though no Vancouver show has been announced yet, Witch Prophet will perform at several festivals this summer, including the Ottawa Jazz Festival.
