Gig list internship

Rhythm Changes is the Canadian jazz website based in Vancouver, BC, made since 2020 by me, Will Chernoff. The flagship part of the website is the gig list, a monthly webpage that is often referred to as the comprehensive source for what's happening in the Vancouver jazz scene.

The list is used by thousands of people and contains hundreds of events per month, taking place at dozens of different venues. Its mission is to make it more fun and easier to participate in the scene that it covers.

I’m looking for someone to gather, enter, format, and sort information for the gig list. This work is paid (CAD 20 per hour). It won’t be as structured as a formal internship, but you’ll demonstrate that you can manage a product that people in a community depend on.

Our work will happen across 5 months from early- to mid-October 2024 until February 28, 2025, with an option for us to extend the work by 2 months (that is, until April 30, 2025) if we both agree to do that.

You must be a participant in the Vancouver jazz scene, but you don’t have to be an active performer or even play an instrument.

You’ll work up to 10 hours per month online, mostly using Google Sheets in the browser. You may be in touch with a handful of artists and live music presenters by email to gather information; I can provide you with an email account to use for outreach. You’ll use Instagram and Facebook for viewing information that gets posted there, but not for outreach.

In your application, write to me about how you participate in the Vancouver jazz scene and why you want to do the internship. If you’re a student, please tell me where you’re enrolled.

You must name at least one reference, who has agreed that I may contact them about you, and provide their phone number and email address. You don’t need to submit a resume.

Applications are closed as of Wed, Sep. 11. I’m personally reviewing all applications over the next two weeks. I will respond to all applicants. Thank you.
